Meade County Probate Jurisdiction
Kentucky splits probate-related work by case type. The Kentucky Court of Justice states that District Court handles probate of wills. It also states that Circuit Court handles contested probate matters. That means a Meade County estate search may require the District Court probate file for the proceeding and the County Clerk index for recorded wills, settlements, or related instruments.
The practical order is court first when the question is about a case status, hearing, letters, or court order. The practical order is County Clerk first when the question is about a recorded will image, a settlement entry, or an older legal-record index. If the same estate has both a court proceeding and recorded instruments, the two offices may each hold part of the record trail.

Meade County Wills and Settlements
The County Clerk has a related but different role from the probate court. The Meade County Clerk records page explains in-office records access and online links to land and legal records. The legal-records page states that the online categories include wills, deeds, mortgages, marriage licenses, settlements, and Fiscal Court orders. It also says most courthouse documents are maintained from 1795 to present and that most document indexes are available back to 1798, with few exceptions.
Online image coverage is narrower. The County Clerk source says online document images are available for most instrument filings from January 2004 to the current date. eCCLIX online indices and images require an account and password assigned by SMI, the website administrator, and special software must be loaded to view images. Access fees are charged for online data and images, while all public records and indices are available for viewing in the Meade County Clerk office free of charge.
The County Clerk legal-records source is central for Meade County probate records when the target is a recorded will, settlement, or estate-related instrument rather than the court probate docket.
The legal-records channel helps identify recorded instruments, but court-file copies still route through the Circuit Court Clerk when the document is part of a probate case file.
The County Clerk records page supports the in-office fallback for Meade County probate records when online eCCLIX credentials or image software are not available.
That fallback matters for older probate-related documents because courthouse records and indexes reach farther back than the online image range.
The KCOJ Specialty Courts page appears in the probate manifest, but it is not a probate court. It is a statewide treatment-court program source, useful only for distinguishing specialty programs from probate jurisdiction.

Meade County Probate Fee Gap
The official research did not locate a current Meade County probate filing-fee schedule. It also captured a June 30, 2026 KCOJ notice stating that civil filing fees in Circuit and District Courts will increase effective July 1, 2026, under Supreme Court Administrative Order 2026-15. Because probate and civil filing fees can change, stale amounts should not be copied from unofficial sources.

Restricted Meade County Probate Records
Probate records may include private addresses, financial details, medical facts, minor information, protected adult information, or sealed filings. Public access can differ between an index, a docket entry, a recorded instrument, and a full case file. District Court also handles mental-health commitments in Kentucky, but the research did not locate a public search method for those sensitive proceedings, so they should be routed through the court and clerk only with lawful authority.
Older probate records may be in the clerk's office, stored at a record facility, or unavailable under retention schedules. KCOJ says the clerk must identify the record facility and provide case and file locator numbers before a State Records Center request can be made. The State Records Center cannot search those old court files by name or Social Security number.
For County Clerk materials, the in-office index may be more complete than online image access because online images are mostly January 2004-current. For court materials, the Circuit Court Clerk should confirm whether a copy can be issued as plain, certified, redacted, or unavailable due to a court restriction.
